Email marketing isn’t dead and it definitely isn’t sleeping!
Many people have predicted the end of email for over 10 years now. It is probably the same type of people that said radio was going to die when televisions came out. They also said newspapers were going to be gone by 2010 because of the internet and social media. Sorry. They are all doing well. Some more that others but the reality is they have all changed and morphed into something better than what they were before.
Email is actually stronger today because it has changed for the better. Spam emails are now going down and many people still sign up for email newsletters like never before. In fact, 72% of consumers sign up for emails because they want to get discounts. It isn’t about the brand but the offers.
Social media comparisons:
Email still has a higher conversion rate in sales than Facebook, the leader in social media currently. People prefer to get an email newsletter (90%) over getting offers on Facebook (10%). Pinterest is coming up fast to overcome Facebook for online products sold but still hasn’t received anywhere near as much attention as an email newsletter does.
The bottom line is that customers still want information sent to their email. They also want to know more about who they may want to do business with. People still want to do business with people and companies that they know and trust. This is especially valid in dealing with local businesses.
How do you get customers to give you their email addresses?
This has been debated for years. I know that there are several people that have come out and said, and I have confirmed this, using a pop-up on your website is by far better than anything else. If you have a brick and mortar business with walk in traffic, a list for them to sign up is also fabulous. Try going to a tablet as the way for them to put in their information. It saves you time in entering them and you can get out to your clients sooner.
Another way of getting their information is to capture it as they email you. I have been using this for a few months now and it is really paying off. I get several that I capture and the addresses with a program that puts their information right into my Customer Relations Management program. This is fabulous and fast.
I just received this link that will benefit all that have this question. Click Here. It is 11 ways to get more email signups.
Whatever way you use to get the email addresses, it is important to send a thank you for signing up and an introduction to what you and your company is all about. A video works great but so will an email message that you type.
The other thing that you must do is start or continue a newsletter that these customers will want to open and read. This is the important part of newsletters. Engage them by sharing with them and then ask for additional feedback. If you are going to make an offer, be sure to give an offer that they will want, not what you want to sell.
Check out the info graphic to the right (download it to read it better) and it will give you where these statistics came from. For the next two weeks, I’m going to write blogs to help you use digital marketing to build your business.
